John Coltrane

John Coltrane's jazz permeated the 1960s and was part of the soundtrack of the Civil Rights Movement.

Jaylin McClinton

Jaylin McClinton is a first generation law student, my friend, and one of my regulars at the winery I work at. He is running for Cook County Commissioner 5th district and I am in awe of how he tirelessly campaigns for change.

The First

"The First" is a reinterpretation of a renaissance painting called "Portrait of a Negresse," which was a painting of one of the first freed slaves in France. The original painting I came across while watching Beyonce and Jay Z's "Apeshit" music video.

About the artist: Hollie Davis studied art and women’s studies at Denison University. Hollie Davis’s work is about the intersection of culture and collage. Her art is passionately the story of communities of all kinds. Hollie was very unsure of her ability as an artist early in her career, but a professor made her realize her potential. He said “Real artists don’t wait for inspiration, your mind needs to know how to get down to work.” Ever since heeding that advice, Hollie has been eager to get down to work.
